POWERING DATA-DRIVEN HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS
Challenges
Operational inefficiencies, labor shortages and ongoing inflationary trends are creating urgency for greater insight into what’s really going on around resource utilization, scheduling, admissions, discharge planning and urgent care. To gain such insight and impact challenges such as length of stay and early readmissions, data from many systems beyond the EMR must be brought together to provide visibility and transparency
The Dedalus Solution
Dedalus Command Center is a centralized healthcare operations control center that improves logistics, enhances enterprise visibility, and streamlines coordination across multiple departments or facilities. It builds on real-time information, focuses prospectively on generating insights and diagnostic analytics that provides an “operational x-ray” on potential impending risk factors or operational constraints – “what is happening, what could happen, what happened, and what decisions and actions to be undertaken.” These insights and actions are orchestrated into the workflows of the care givers.
See, Measure, Optimize – Data-Driven Command Center Insights
• Gain transparency and control around enterprise processes from a central coordination point
• Generate real-time insights into patient flows, organizational capacity, and clinical effectiveness
• Deliver operational efficiencies within budget
Benefits
Imagine real-time patient flow and organizational orchestration through actionable information accessible everywhere.

• Improves growth and the access and effectiveness of care for patients
• Accelerates throughput and improves overall quality of care and the wise use of resources through better demand and capacity management
• Converts real-time insights into organizational performance to optimize operational and clinical processes (Inpatient, Perioperative, and Emergency Care)
• Increases efficiency by improving the understanding of operational challenges, specific constraints, and impending risk factors
Dedalus on AWS
Dedalus Command Center is a secure cloud native application deployed as containers that scale horizontally using AWS EKS. Dedalus is both a Software and Services AWS partner. They took part in the Partner Accelerated Development Program and are an ISV- Accelerate partner.

How Dedalus helped European Health System
Challenges
• Funding: Needed to secure funding to establish and maintain the infrastructure and solution platform.
• Talent: Had to ensure the right staff to support the command center. It is very important to identify key people who can ensure continuity to the change management across the project and facilitate continuous and efficient communication that allows adherence of the stakeholders throughout the life of the project.
• Executive and staff engagement, communication, and commitment to the process to make it successful.
• Organizational and cultural change management: The healthcare organization needed to embrace new processes to manage data and access to information, and knowledge for care delivery. Command Center means democratizing information providing all stakeholders with access to the same information, resulting in a cultural transformation.
• Adaptive and complex Health Systems: Ability to change and learn from experience but very complex at the same time due to the diverse number of social actors that converge. Hospitals are organizations where decision making is delegated to
Solution
• Dedalus Command Center uses new generation technologies to follow-up, control, and monitor organizational processes’ information, surgical operations, and emergencies and hospitalizations, in real time, for both resources and clinical information management.
• Detect risks that affect deviations in care activity, as well as offer decision-making recommendations for professionals to manage the necessary resources avoiding saturations and bottlenecks that accompany the clinical decision based on valuable algorithms and rules.
• Represent behavioral predictions, which offered the hospital projection models to improve decision making.
Results
• Increased Operating Room (OR) utilization through Command Center with improved first case on time starts, improved prime-time utilization, and reduced need for over-time.
• Reduced waiting list times for common surgeries in numerous specialties such as thoracic surgery, cardiology, urology, angiology and vascular surgery, orthopedics, and traumatology.
• Proof of Concept on AI/ML based Demand and Capacity planning showed that the hospital can increase OR utilization with more accurate case duration estimates based on procedure details and patient factors.
• Initial project outcomes from the Command Center Team identified gaps around planning, improving specific services planning by 10% to 40% depending on surgical specialty.
• Reduced same-day cancellations to rates aligned with national standard benchmarks through real-time alerts with action plans.
